This is a methods catalog, which came out of a workshop held in Prague, in May 2023. The workshop brought together scholars, artists, composters, and fermenters based in Czechia and Finland—and asked: what are the sensory tools for studying microbes?

This edition of musings was an experiment in writing collectively as one voice—across three writers, five time zones, and ten months. This manifesto was generated, iteratively revised and edited using the experimental co-writing method called ‘the hundreds,’ which we adapted from feminist thinkers like Kim TallBear and Lauren Berlant. The practice itself entails writing 100 words and having the word count be a creative constraint. We spent months revising: first we held a retreat, then we synthesized our values from it, then we reacted to each other’s provocations in hundreds, then kept hundreds-ing on second- and third-order provocations. We hope to continue this practice of polyphonic co-writing.
